Artemis’ Fetter - Amethyst Moon Cuff
When I first set out to create this cuff, it was as an homage to the goddess Artemis, and it was only after I had completed it that I realized that the Hunter's Full Moon was a mere two days away. This placed even greater significance on this piece, and I love when life aligns in this way!
Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, is a Greek goddess and a protector of women. She is the known as the most independent woman in the Greek pantheon, preferring to spend her days protecting the animals of the forests in which she dwells with her bow, and avoiding the corrupting advances of the men who covet her. The story of Amethyst tells of Dionysus' attempted seduction of the unwilling maiden Amethystos. Amethystos prayed to Artemis for protection and the goddess turned her into crystal to prevent Dionysus from laying a hand on the maid. It is said that this turn of events incited guilt within the God and he began to cry into his wine, which spilled and stained the white quartz a beautiful violet. Amethyst has long been known to soothe and strengthen the wearer, grounding and promoting personal power, protection, and healing. It purifies the negative and increases one's mental clarity, inner peace, and psychic/spiritual abilities.
This cuff is crafted almost entirely in sterling silver, with a simple star in fine silver. The central focus is a faceted amethyst crescent moon, with a gradation from lilac to deepest violet, set into a crown bezel. A bow and arrow, Artemis' famous symbol, nestles into the inward curve of the moon, pointing skyward. The cuff base is composed of a sturdy, ornate thistle band, tipped with thick granules, and wrapped in hand-forged vines. Dainty leaves weave their way along the band, curling around a fine silver star, and 4mm studs of fiery blue moonstone.
Rainbow moonstone, so named for its celestial appearance, is a stone with feminine energy and is often used to deflect negative energy, ease emotional trauma, and balance masculine and feminine energies within both men and women. It is also said to clear the mind, and aid in peaceful sleep and lucid dreaming, depending on the wearer's needs.
This cuff measures just under 4.5" in inside diameter from point to point, and a side-to-side width of 2", which can be lightly adjusted. The internal height is about 1.5" and this can also be lightly adjusted to form a solid fit. If you have any questions about the fit, please reach out!
